Filgrastim biosimilars have recently been introduced into clinical practice. To date biosimilars have demonstrated comparable efficacy and safety as the originator in chemotherapy-induced neutropenia. Published experience in engraftment after autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) is limited and concerns relatively few patients.

Great interest has been raised recently by the design of new adoptive immunotherapeutic strategies based on the in vivo infusion of ex vivo-expanded and activated natural killer (NK) cells. The development of good manufacturing practice (GMP) methods for the efficient production of fully functional NK cells is mandatory for clinical application.

Critically ill patients appear to be at high risk of developing deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism during their stay in the intensive care unit (ICU). However, little is known about the clinical course of venous thromboembolism in the ICU setting. We therefore evaluated, through a systematic review of the literature, the available data on the impact of a diagnosis of DVT on hospital and ICU stay, duration of mechanical ventilation and mortality in critically ill patients. We also tried to determine whether currently adopted prophylactic measures need to be revised and improved in the ICU setting.

Although current treatment guidelines recommend prophylaxis in paediatric patients with haemophilia, specific indications for and barriers to the prescription of prophylaxis in the paediatric haemophiliac population have not been established. The aim of this web-based survey of clinicians at Haemophilia Treatment Centres in Italy was to identify factors for and against the initiation of prophylactic coagulation factor replacement therapy in paediatric patients with haemophilia.

The field of asteroid thermophysical modeling has experienced anextraordinary growth in the last ten years, as new thermal infrared data becameavailable for hundreds of thousands of asteroids. The infrared emission ofasteroids depends on the body's size, shape, albedo, thermal inertia, roughnessand rotational properties. These parameters can therefore be derived bythermophysical modeling of infrared data. Thermophysical modeling led toasteroid size estimates that were confirmed at the few-percent level by laterspacecraft visits. We discuss how instrumentation advances now allowmid-infrared interferometric observations as well as high-accuracyspectro-photometry, posing their own set of thermal-modeling challenges.Wepresent major breakthroughs achieved in studies of the thermal inertia, asensitive indicator for the nature of asteroids soils, allowing us, forinstance, to determine the grain size of asteroidal regoliths. Thermal inertiaalso governs non-gravitational effects on asteroid orbits, requiringthermophysical modeling for precise asteroid dynamical studies. The radiativeheating of asteroids, meteoroids, and comets from the Sun also governs thethermal stress in surface material; only recently has it been recognized as asignificant weathering process. Asteroid space missions with thermal infraredinstruments are currently undergoing study at all major space agencies. Thiswill require a high level of sophistication of thermophysical models in orderto analyze high-quality spacecraft data.
