READING THEORIES AND READING COMPREHENSION

Maria Novary Ngabut

In this article several reading theories in their relations to reading comprehension teachers and lecturers of English need to know are reviewed. At the theory level, three other Models of Reading, namely Bottom-Up, Top-Down, and Interactive are previously discussed to the Schema Theory. In reviewing the reading comprehension, the history of reading instruction, types and purposes of reading, and cognitive reading skills are discussed. Finally, it reviews six variables involved in the comprehension of English texts.

The paper analyzes the innovation intensity and adoption characteristics at the base of the pyramid market. The innovation intensity is configured as radical and incremental, while the innovation adoption is configured as early and tardy. As an empirical approach it was conducted a study type survey . Data analysis is based on non-parametric statistics. The results indicate that the base of the pyramid consumers is characterized by adopting incremental innovations tardily, as pointed out by the literature. Brazilianness: a Look at the Multiple Faces of the Brazilian National Identity

Mariana Bassi Sutter · Maria Laura Ferranty Mac Lennan · Gabriela Pelegrini Tiscoski +1 more

Over the past few years, Brazil has been gaining visibility internationally due to its increasing role in the global context. This leads to the interest, from society and academics, to better acknowledge the elements that characterize Brazilian culture. Therefore, the objective of this research is to understand the representations of Brazil's image and the diverse meanings of the Brazilianness concept though different views. Although the discussion about Brazilianness is not new, there are many interpretations about the characteristics that comprise national identity and culture, as well as those that make it unique. This research articulates the theoretical discussion about the theme, exploring what has already been presented by other authors on diverse fields as anthropology, sociology, social sciences, management and other areas. As such, the study was developed as an essay and gathers several visions on the theme, which is its main contribution. This study allows future studies with the use of the Brazilianness concept to managers and academics.

HELMINTOS EM TADARIDA BRASILIENSIS (CHIROPTERA: MOLOSSIDAE) DO SUL DO BRASIL

Tatiana Cheuiche Pesenti · Sâmara Nunes Gomes · Ana Maria Rui +1 more

Vinícius Menezes Tunholi-Alves · Victor Menezes Tunholi · Sócrates Fraga da Costa-Neto +4 more

APPLICATION OF GIS TECHNOLOGIES IN HISTORICAL ANALYSIS OF RIVER SYSTEMS ON AN EXAMPLE BELGOROD REGION

А. Н. M. A. Petina · Maria G. Lebedeva +1 more

Historical and cartographic analysis with the use of GIS technologies showed that in the basin of Pena river (the basin of Dnepr) in the late nineteenth century the decline of the river network was 27%, and by the end of the XX century – 29% in comparison with the end of the XVIII century In the basin of the Black Kalitva (Don river basin), these values amounted to 67% and 75% respectively. The maximum degradation marks of the river network in the basin of the Black Kalitva were traced for the period from the 1 780s through the 1880s. In both observed basins the rivers of 3– 5 orders were exposed by the maximal degradation as a result of destroying from the mid-nineteenth century a considerable part of the ravine forests in their source areas (west of the region) and practically complete agricultural development of natural steppes in the east of the territory

GRAVITY ANOMALIES OF THE MOON

S. G. Pugacheva · V. V. Shevchenko

The source of gravity anomalies of the Moon are large mascons with a high mass concentration at a depth of volcanic plains and lunar Maria. New data on the gravitational field of the Moon were obtained from two Grail spacecrafts. The article presents the data of physical and mechanical properties of the surface soil layer of the lunar Maria and gives an assessment of the chemical composition of the soil. There have been calculated heterogeneity parameters of the surface macro-relief of the lunar Maria: albedo, soil density, average grain diameter of the particles forming the surface layer and the volume fraction occupied by particles. It can be assumed that mascons include rich KREEP rocks with a high content of thorium and iron oxide. Formation of mascons is connected with intensive development of basaltic volcanism on the Moon in the early periods of its existence.
