Objective: The aim of the study is to compare efficacy and safety of topical 1% butenafine and topical 1% ciclopirox olamine in tinea pedis and to evaluate effects of these treatments on quality of life.\udMethods: We conducted a randomized controlled trial on 80 patients with tinea pedis between May 2014 and May 2015. Of 80 patients, 40 were treated with 1% butenafine cream and 40 were treated with 1% ciclopirox olamine cream for one month. Clinical characteristics, Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) scores, Physician’s Global Assessment (PhGA), and Patient’s Global Assessment were recorded. \udResults: Forty patients (21 male, 19 female) on butenafine therapy and 40 patients (15 male, 25 female) on ciclopirox olamine therapy were enrolled in the study. Both treatments significantly improved the clinical signs and symptoms, but no significant difference was found between the groups (p>0.05). The DLQI scores decreased significantly after the treatments in both groups. The recurrence was observed only in two patients from ciclopirox olamine group. \udConclusion: Topical butenafine and ciclopirox olamine had similar high efficacy and safety in the treatment of tinea pedis. In addition, both two drugs had positive improvement on quality of life of the patients

Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma in a Hemiagenetic Thyroid Gland: A Case Report

Oğuz Uğur Aydın · Alptekin Gürsoy · Banu Bilezikçi +1 more

Thyroid hemiagenesis is a rare congenital pathology and it is secondary to a defect which occurs during embryonic development of the thyroid tissue. Usually, diagnosis is incidentally made by imaging study of the neck or during diagnosis of a related thyroid gland disease. Absence of the left lobe is observed in near all cases, but involvement of the right lobe has also been reported in the literature, albeit very rare. Although true prevalence is not known, the reported prevalence ranges from 1/1900 to 1/2675. Presence of thyroid nodules, subacute thyroiditis, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and Grave’s disease in thyroid hemiagenesis has previously been reported in the literature. Combination of thyroid papillary cancer and thyroid hemiagenesis is rarely reported. In this report, we present the case of papillary cancer in a solitary nodule in a hemiagenetic thyroid gland in a patient with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and treatment modalities thereof

Neutrophil Gelatinase-Associated Lipocalin Levels During Pneumoperitoneum

Mine Kiseli · Gamze Sinem Çağlar · Hakan Yılmaz +5 more

A temporary deterioration in renal function during pneumoperitoneum has been reported, but the extent is not known. A new marker for the early detection of renal injury, neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL), has been shown to increase in various conditions that affect renal function. This study was conducted to explore detrimental effects of pneumoperitoneum in laparoscopic surgery on renal function by studying levels of urinary NGAL (uNGAL).

DOI: 10.4328/JCAM.5119 Received: 31.05.2017 Accepted: 06.07.2017 Printed: 01.12.2017 J Clin Anal Med 2017;8(suppl 4): 370-3 Corresponding Author: Cengiz Arlı, Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Mustafa Kemal University, Hatay, Turkey.
