Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate endoscopic and paranasal computed tomography (PNCT) findings in cases of failed dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR). Methods: This study included 30 cases of failed DCR (18 females, 12 males; mean age: 49.9±18.9 years) and 30 successful DCR patients (20 females, 9 males; mean age: 56.3±15.9 years). The reasons for the recurrence of the disease were evaluated using preoperative endoscopic examination and PNCT findings. Results: Endoscopic pathology was identified in 24 out of 30 failed cases (80%), while endoscopic pathology was identified in 12 out of 30 successful cases (40%) (p<0.05). PNCT revealed nasal pathology in 24 out of 30 failed cases (80%), and in 15 out of 30 successful cases (50%) (p<0.05). Conclusion: Endonasal and sinonasal pathologies may be associated with DCR failure. Before the commencement of revision DCR, endoscopic examination and PNCT may provide valuable information regarding the underlying etiology.

Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the relationship between some parameters of complete blood count and placenta previa and placental invasion anomalies. Methods: In this study, 70 cases with placenta previa and 70 control cases who admitted to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Mustafa Kemal University between September 2015 and December 2016 were reviewed retrospectively. The sociodemographic data and the numbers of previous cesarean section of the patients were recorded. Before the cesarean section, the counts of preoperative lymphocyte, neutrophil and platelet, mean platelet volume (MPV), neutrophil/lymphocyte rate, platelet/lymphocyte rate, and hemoglobin and hematocrit values were recorded. It was analyzed whether these parameters were able to predict placenta previa and placental invasion anomalies or not. Results: There was no difference between two groups in terms of sociodemographic (age, gravida, parity, living fetus and the number of previous cesarean section) data. The week of gestation during delivery and birth weight were significantly low in placenta previa group. Postoperative hemoglobin and hematocrit values were also significantly low in previa group. Considering the complete blood parameters, MPV was significantly low in previa group (p=0.042). Placental invasion anomaly was confirmed histopathologically in 24 of 27 cases in previa group who underwent cesarean hysterectomy. When the group with invasion anomaly was compared to the control group, MPV was also significantly low (p=0.047). Conclusion: In addition to the ultrasound images, simple blood count parameters can be used to confirm placenta previa and placental invasion anomalies in particular. Among these parameters, MPV seems to be the most potent predictor.

Objective: Is to evaluate the impact of body mass index (BMI) levels on pregnancy outcomes in high-responders undergoing assisted reproductive technology (ART). Material and Methods: Total of 120 high responders was allocated to the study. High response was defined as having high serum AMH levels (>4 ng/ml). Subjects were divided into three groups according to their BMI values; normal weight 57 (BMI 18.5–24.9 kg/m2), overweight 42 (25-29.9 kg/m2) and obese 21 subjects (BMI ≥30 kg/m2) were compared for pregnancy outcomes and Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS) rates. Gonadotropin starting dose was fixed to 150 IU/day in antagonist co-treated cycles for all subjects. Results: A total of 120 cycles were evaluated. In patients with BMI ≥30 kg/m2, the total gonadotropin use was significantly higher (p<0.001) and number of retrieved oocytes was significantly lower (p=0.001) when compared to other groups. In normal weight patients, significantly higher numbers of mature oocytes and 2PN embryos were obtained when compared with other groups (p<0.001). Other parameters including number of good quality embryos available for transfer, implantation, biochemical, clinical pregnancy and OHSS rates were similar between all groups. Conclusion: Our results did not reveal a significant effect of BMI on the ART outcomes of high responder infertile women. Although higher BMI was correlated with less number of retrieved oocytes, it did not resulted with a negative impact on pregnancy outcomes. Another interesting finding was the trend to a less OHSS incidence with the increase in BMI of high responder patients.

Symbiotic Organisms Search (SOS) is a brand new and effective metaheuristic optimization algorithm. This paper proposes the SOS algorithm to solve the Economic Load Dispatch (ELD) problem with valve-point effect, which is one of the essential optimization problems in modern power systems. The proposed algorithm is tested on five different test cases consisting 3-machines 6-bus, IEEE 5-machines 14-bus, IEEE 6-machines 30-bus, 13 and 40 unit test systems including both transmission loss and without transmission loss. These test cases show that SOS is able to converge to the global optima successfully. Moreover results obtained from proposed algorithm are compared through different methods used in solving the ELD problem existing in the literature. According to these results, SOS produces better values than all.
