Can hemodialysis change QRS axis in patients without cardiovascular disease?

Ahmet Korkmaz · Abdülkadir Yıldız · Harun Kundi +6 more

Due to rapid changes in volume and electrolyte concentration during hemodialysis (HD), some electrocardiographic (ECG) changes or arrhythmias can be seen. The aim of this study was to assess ECG QRS axis changes and other ECG parameters after HD in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD).

The role of endobronchial and endoscopic ultrasound guided fine needle aspiration for mediastinal nodal staging of non-small-cell lung cancer

Nuri Tutar · Alper Yurcı · Işın Güneş +4 more

Mediastinal and hilar nodal staging is one of the key points for differentiating treatment modalities in patients with non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The aim of the present study was to determinate the diagnostic yields of endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA), endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) and combined EBUS-TBNA and EUS-FNA modalities for nodal staging in potentially operable NSCLC patients.

Tuberculosis is seen generally in the lungs. Besides, all organs in the body can be affected by tuberculosis. Diagnosis of extra pulmonary tuberculosis (EPTB) is more difficult than pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB). Although, the isolation of Mycobacterium tuberculosis is gold standard of diagnosis of EPTB, the rate of bacteriologic isolation is low especially in EPTB. If M. tuberculosis is detected, it gives some information about the epidemiological features of the disease and drug susceptibility.

A case of stent thrombosis presenting as acute myocardial infarction related to right coronary artery originating from the left coronary system

Emrah Ermiş · Serkan Kahraman · Hakan Uçar +1 more

Right coronary artery (RCA) originating from the left coronary system is a subtype of single coronary artery (SCA) anomaly, and the origin of RCA as a branch from the left anterior descending artery (LAD) is a very rare variant. A 55-year-old male who had a percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) history was hospitalized due to acute coronary syndrome. Coronary angiography revealed an aberrant RCA originating from the mid-LAD as well as stent thrombosis. A successful PCI was performed and he was discharged from the hospital three days after the PCI. It is known that there is an increased incidence of atherosclerosis and stent thrombosis in coronary anomaly patients. Therefore, interventional cardiologists should consider the most suitable PCI strategy before stenting and avoid complex techniques.
