Lau Sai Ping · Ilda Salwani Binti Ameer Hamza · Ruzihan Binti Abdullah +3 more

This study is to examine the effectiveness of lesson study on differentiated instruction among Mathematics head panels in district of Port Dickson, Malaysia. Teachers who received substantial professional development can boost their students’ achievement. The effectiveness of professional development practice is being measured by the heads of panel understanding about differentiated instruction and the application of differentiated instruction in the classroom. Teachers often struggle to deliver mathematics lesson effectively in classroom due to different learning styles and students’ mixed abilities in the classroom. Some students learn at a slower pace and some in advance stage. The activities provided by teachers may work best for some students but will not work for others. During lesson, teachers often assign tasks, which many students end up with disappointment and confusion. Students become passive learners and teacher felt frustrated. Therefore, differentiated instructions make sense because it offers different paths to understand content, process and product. The aim of the present study was to obtain information from the school teachers in the implementation and planning of differentiated instruction in teaching and learning. Moreover, the research team were interested in knowing the strategy of differentiated instruction used in teaching and learning that support quality teaching. This study involved 33 mathematics head panels from national primary schools in district of Port Dickson who volunteered to participate in this study. In this programme, heads of panel will be able to share their experiences in conducting and implementing differentiated instructions in classroom among peers in the district. Structured questionnaires and interviews were used in this qualitative study to collect data. Results indicated that the lesson study carried out by the Port Dickson District Education Office is effective. Furthermore, the lesson study that were carried out by heads of panel in theirs school managed to boost self confidence among these heads of panel. In fact, they showed willingness to share best practices to all mathematics teachers in the district

Digital Architecture Void Formation In Digital Architecture Interfaces

Basim Hassan Almajidia · Shams Ameer kafi

In the last era of the digital revolution, architectural outputs with distinctive void formations appeared. The development in digital technologies, which adopts solid geometry in the formation of its interfaces. So the void became an integral part of the design at the level of three dimensions, to serves as a fourth dimension of architecture. By connecting architecture with the time, the limits of length, width, and height fade away and change from the limits of place to those of time, and this void shifts out from achieving the aesthetic needs to achieving functional and structural needs. The direct correlation of the architectural void with the process of forming the interfaces led it to be considered as a basic architectural formation unit, and in light of this,  the research problem was presented as (insufficient knowledge about the importance and role of the three-dimensional architectural void and the mechanisms of its formation in the interfaces of contemporary digital architecture as a void that generates or creates the design within the needs of the designer and the receiver ). The aim of the research came to reveal the concept of architectural void at the three-dimensional level, as well as revealing strategies and mechanisms for shaping the void in the interfaces. The research adopted the descriptive and analytical research methodology in proposing theoretical knowledge extracted from previous studies of building the theoretical framework for the geometry terms which contains  (strategies for forming digital void, characteristics of void in digital output, features of digital spatial structure),  and applying it on contemporary architectural models with a qualitative measure that is aimed at knowing the effect of terms on the selected samples and the percentage of their effectiveness in the characteristics of the digital output, and verifying the main research hypothesis which stipulated the adoption of the strategy of forming the digital void to combine the mechanisms of digital formation that is used to create void formation to meet the needs in contemporary architecture. The results indicated that the disappearance of the boundaries between the interior and exterior over time led to the use of the void in the formation of the building’s outer mass at the three-dimensional level so that the formation of the mass is based on that void which is called (design-generating void) and the structure which is created by the void called (the spatial structure), as its formation depended on "geometry" and its methods of formation.

Calculation of pressure loss of two drilling muds in Noor oil field

. Hassan Abdul Ameer · Hassan Abdul Hadi.

In this work, calculation of pressure losses in circulating system for two drilling muds is evaluated in Noor oil field. Two types of drilling muds that were used for drilling section 12 1/4" and 8 3/4" which are Salt saturated mud and Ferro Chrome Lignosulfonate-Chrome Lignite mud. These calculations are based on field data that were gathered from the drilling site of well Noor-15, which are included, rheological data, flow data and specification of drill string. Based on the obtained results, the best rheological model that fit their data is the Herschel-Bulkley model according to correlation coefficient value for their two drilling mud. Also, the difference between the calculated pressure loss by Herschel-Bulkley model and standpipe pressure value are very convergence.

Algorithmic Synergy and Architectural Form Generation Mechanisms

Noor Ameer Al-shukri · Basim Hasan Hashim Al-Majidi

Today, the architecture field is witnessing a noticeable evolution regarding the used tools that the designer should invest in a peculiar way that is made available in architecture through the concept of synergy generally and algorithmic synergy specifically. The synergy is meant to study and analyze the cooperative behavior of complex systems and self-organizing systems that leads to different outputs referred to by the synergy as the (whole), which is bigger than the sum of parts and in architecture, it's translated as the architectural form. This point resulted in a need of a specific study regarding the concept of synergy that focuses on the cooperative, synergistic relations within the trilogy of (form, structure, and material) and clarifies the role of technological evolution of design tools through algorithmic synergy in formulating that relation, thus resulted in the research's problem which came in the following statement (The lack of clear knowledge of the algorithmic synergy and its mechanisms in generating and discovering the architectural form digitally) and to solve this problem and Achieving the research goal which is represented in (Clarifying the knowledge regarding the role of algorithmic synergy and its mechanisms in generating and discovering the architectural form digitally), the research clarifies the concept of "Synergy" in general and "Algorithmic Synergy" precisely in order to get the epitome of vocabulary on the theoretical part and moving on to the practical application on elected projects samples  moving on to the conclusions and recommendations that shows having the architecture a self-organizing synergy system connects the designer and the developed digital tool that is provided by algorithmic synergy, plays a vital role in reaching the digitally synergized whole that represented by the architectural form.

Academic Publishing and the Referees' Reports: A Genre-Based Study

Sawsan Kareem Zghayyir Al-Saaidi · Abdul-Ameer Hassan Al-Ubaidi

Peer review (RP) process as an academic genre is a pivotal step to certify the research quality to be published by enhancing peer perspectives and imparting credibility. The aim of this paper is to scrutinise the formal, cognitive structuring, the significant evaluative features and pragmatic value. To address this aim, a framework based on Bhatia’s (1993) cognitive structuring model and Fortanet's (2008) model of moves is adopted to analyse two referees' reports from two various disciplines namely Social Sciences and Veterinary Medicine solicited from Iraqi academicians. The findings unravel that there is a special format that followed by referees in their reports concerning the balanced use of positive/ negative comments along with the structural organization adopted. The generic structuring of the two analysed reports includes four paramount moves that are similar despite they are from two different disciplines. In addition, the most notably comments assigned by referees' reports are content related defects which are amalgamated with the use of language written.

Low Glucose Enhances the Cytoprotective Effect of Metformin Against Doxorubicin Induced Cytotoxicity in Normal Cells

Jeanne Y. Wei · Fathima S. Ameer · Xiaomin Zhang +2 more

The anti-diabetic drug, metformin, has been reported to be beneficial for the cardiovascular system andmay facilitate the extension of a healthier lifespan. Doxorubicin is a leading chemotherapeutic drug usedto treat a variety of cancers, yet it can cause significant adverse effects with cardiac toxicity and longterm damage. To test the hypothesis that the hypoglycaemic agent, metformin, may protect normal cellsduring chemotherapy treatment with liposomal doxorubicin, C2C12 myoblast cells were used to studycellular bioenergetics, variations in gene expressions and biochemical alterations induced by metforminand pegylated liposomal doxorubicin (L-Doxo) under low glucose conditions (2.7 mM or 50 mg/dL).Using confocal microscopy, we noted that treatment of C2C12 cells with 30 µg/mL L-Doxo under lowglucose conditions induced a number of cellular defects. L-Doxo treatment dysregulated the expressionof mitochondrial fission and fusion genes, which may influence transformation of the network’sconnectivity. L-Doxo significantly reduced mitochondrial oxygen consumption rate (OCR) andextracellular acidification rate (ECAR). However, pre-treatment of cells with 100 nM metforminprovided protection against L-Doxo-induced damage and increased cell viability and ATP levels in cellseven under low glucose conditions. In addition, metformin increased and restored the decreased OCRand ECAR. Our data provide a mechanism by which low dose metformin exerts protective effects againstL-Doxo via involvement of AMPKα under low glucose conditions. Taken together, our resultsdemonstrate that metformin protects normal cells from L-Doxo damage even under low glucoseconditions.
