Topological loops with solvable multiplication groups of dimension at most six are centrally nilpotent

Ágota Figula · Ameer Al-Abayechi

The main result of our consideration is the proof of the centrally nilpotency of class two property for connected topological proper loops $L$ of dimension $le 3$ which have an at most six-dimensional solvable indecomposable Lie group as their multiplication group. This theorem is obtained from our previous classification by the investigation of six-dimensional indecomposable solvable multiplication Lie groups having a five-dimensional nilradical. We determine the Lie algebras of these multiplication groups and the subalgebras of the corresponding inner mapping groups.

Wearable Detection Systems for Epileptic Seizure: A review

Alla Fikrat Alwindawi · Osman N. Uçan · Ameer Hussein Morad

The seizure epilepsy is risky because it happens randomly and leads to death in some cases. The standard epileptic seizures monitoring system involves video/EEG (electro-encephalography), which bothers the patient, as EEG electrodes are attached to the patient’s head. Seriously, helping or alerting the patient before the seizure is one of the issue that attracts the researchers and designers attention. So that there are spectrums of portable seizure detection systems available in markets which are based on non-EEG signal. The aim of this article is to provide a literature survey for the latest articles that cover many issues in the field of designing portable real-time seizure detection that includes the use of multiple body signals, new algorithm methods, and detection devices that are commercially available. As a result, the reviewing process shows that there are many research articles that have covered wearable seizure detection systems that based on body signals. The more effective monitoring and detection seizure system is the system that uses multi-body signals, is highly comfortable and has low power consumption.

The Detection of Counterfeit Banknotes Using Ensemble Learning Techniques of AdaBoost and Voting

Rihab Salah Khairy · Ameer Hussein · Haider TH. Salim ALRikabi

The movement of cash flow transactions by either electronic channels or physically created openings for the influx of counterfeit banknotes in financial markets. Aided by global economic integration and expanding international trade, attention must be geared at robust techniques for the recognition and detection of counterfeit banknotes. This paper presents ensemble learning algorithms for banknotes detection. The AdaBoost and voting ensemble are deployed in combination with machine learning algorithms. Improved detection accuracies are produced by the ensemble methods. Simulation results certify that the ensemble models of AdaBoost and voting provided accuracies of up to 100% for counterfeit banknotes.

Outcome of limb salvage surgery in sarcomas around knee with mega endoprosthetic reconstruction

Afreen Ameer Hussain · Nishaanth R · Abhishek Shetty

Background: Currently 90-95% of sarcomas around the knee can be treated safely with wide resection and limb salvage surgery. Advancement of material science and design in endoprosthesis enables immediate rehabilitation, provides durable and functional limb. Primary goal is to restore and maintain stability and ambulation. Aim of the study: To determine the functional outcome and complications of mega endoprosthesis. Methods and Materials: Retrospective study conducted between 2008 to 2013 in an age group of 16 to 30 years with sarcomas around knee treated by mega endoprosthetic reconstruction. Total of 20 cases included in this study (Osteosarcoma12 cases, Giant cell tumour6 cases and Metastatic lesion – 2 cases) with tumour lesion at distal femur in 15 cases and 5 cases in proximal tibia. Follow up period was 48 months. Neo-adjuvant chemotherapy and post-op chemotherapy was given in selected cases. Functional outcome was scored by Musculoskeletal tumour society scoring (MSTS). Results: The average MSTS functional score was 75% (Range 60% to 100%). 4-year survival rate was 100% in our study. Range of movements at 4 years was 0-90°. Complications was observed in 5 cases. 2 cases had foot drop, one case had knee dislocation, and one case had flap necrosis and aseptic loosening in one case. Discussion: Individual approach to every patient is essential in order to choose the most suitable surgical treatment. All our patients were below 30 years and 2/3rd were below 25 years of age, hence limb salvage is preferred over amputation. Conclusion: Mega endoprosthetic reconstruction provides good functional outcome in patients with bone tumours around the knee. Endoprosthesis should be considered as treatment of choice for bone tumours around the knee.

Open-source projects for autonomous robotics and systems: A survey

Ameer Tamoor Khan · Shuai Li · Dechao Chen +1 more

Open-Source has not only removed the monopoly of the few technological companies, but has also distributed the knowledge, at no cost. With knowledge moves on from person to person, and each person adds his/her contribution to the past work, a knowledge production chain keeps rolling, greatly reducing the effort to re-invent wheels. It allows the public availability of data and enables the addition, modification, and edition of data more efficiently at a faster pace. Robots, considered as a replacement of man-power are of meticulous interests for researchers in the past few decades. Their immunity to walk and talk more or less like a human is worth praising, but this radical change was not so obvious a decade or two ago before the wide propagation of open-source, the continuous spread of research work around the world allows the brilliant minds to add their pieces to incrementally growing joint efforts. It has revolutionized the robotics from the simple remote-control cars to the self-driven cars. This survey summarizes main stream open source projects emerging in recent years and expects to increase the exposure of existing open source projects and increase the popularity of them, with an intention to further reduce unnecessary effort to re-invent existing systems.

A Randomized Controlled Trial Comparing Glargine U300 and Glargine U100 for the Inpatient Management of Medicine and Surgery Patients With Type 2 Diabetes: Glargine U300 Hospital Trial

Francisco J. Pasquel · M. Cecilia Lansang · Ameer Khowaja +10 more

OBJECTIVE The role of U300 glargine insulin for the inpatient management of type 2 diabetes (T2D) has not been determined. We compared the safety and efficacy of glargine U300 versus glargine U100 in noncritically ill patients with T2D. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS This prospective, open-label, randomized clinical trial included 176 patients with poorly controlled T2D (admission blood glucose [BG] 228 ± 82 mg/dL and HbA1c 9.5 ± 2.2%), treated with oral agents or insulin before admission. Patients were treated with a basal-bolus regimen with glargine U300 (n = 92) or glargine U100 (n = 84) and glulisine before meals. We adjusted insulin daily to a target BG of 70–180 mg/dL. The primary end point was noninferiority in the mean difference in daily BG between groups. The major safety outcome was the occurrence of hypoglycemia. RESULTS There were no differences between glargine U300 and U100 in mean daily BG (186 ± 40 vs. 184 ± 46 mg/dL, P = 0.62), percentage of readings within target BG of 70–180 mg/dL (50 ± 27% vs. 55 ± 29%, P = 0.3), length of stay (median [IQR] 6.0 [4.0, 8.0] vs. 4.0 [3.0, 7.0] days, P = 0.06), hospital complications (6.5% vs. 11%, P = 0.42), or insulin total daily dose (0.43 ± 0.21 vs. 0.42 ± 0.20 units/kg/day, P = 0.74). There were no differences in the proportion of patients with BG <70 mg/dL (8.7% vs. 9.5%, P > 0.99), but glargine U300 resulted in significantly lower rates of clinically significant hypoglycemia (<54 mg/dL) compared with glargine U100 (0% vs. 6.0%, P = 0.023). CONCLUSIONS Hospital treatment with glargine U300 resulted in similar glycemic control compared with glargine U100 and may be associated with a lower incidence of clinically significant hypoglycemia.
