Immigrant women are at heightened risk for intimate partner homicide from their abusive partners’ firearms. This research examined the correlates of a partner’s firearm ownership and whether it affected women’s mental health (MH) and safety-related empowerment through its association with increased severity of intimate partner violence (IPV). This cross-sectional study is based on data from immigrant women ( n = 134) with past-year IPV experiences. Logistic regression was used to examine individual and relationship-level correlates of partners’ firearm ownership. Mediation analysis was conducted using a bootstrapping approach. Correlates significantly associated with partner’s firearm ownership were women’s region of origin and length of time in the US. Partner’s firearm ownership was less common among Asian women and more common among immigrant women who had lived in the US for more than ten years. Severe IPV significantly mediated the association between a partner’s firearm ownership and women’s MH and safety-related empowerment. Understanding how a partner’s firearm ownership impacts abused women’s MH, their exposure to IPV, and their ability to protect themselves from IPV-related harm is crucial for developing targeted interventions and policies with substantial public health implications.

Black women who have sex with women and men (BWSWM) encounter healthcare inequities, contributing to delays in care and unfavorable health outcomes. They also report negative patient–provider communication and subsequent nondisclosure of sexual orientation. We aimed to describe the healthcare experiences of 25 BWSWM aged 18 to 35 reporting sexual activity with men and women in the previous 12 months. Analysis of participant narratives revealed predominant negative healthcare encounters, encapsulated by three emerging themes. First, Misunderstanding My Needs described fears of experiencing inferior quality of care. Second, Tailored Experiences described participant reports that care lacked the ability to meet Black LGBQ people’s needs. Third, Patient–Provider Racial Concordance described participants’ negative experiences receiving care from non-Black healthcare providers. These findings highlight some gaps in healthcare experiences expressed by BWSWM and the importance of care from providers with shared racial identities. Addressing these gaps necessitates provider education that places emphasis on cultural humility and the implementation of strategies for nonbiased care. These workforce strategies could significantly alter the health trajectories of Black sexual minority women in society.

The interaction between freely propagating electrons and light waves istypically described using an approximation in which we assume that the electronvelocity remains approximately the same during the interaction. In this articlewe analytically describe the dynamics of electrons in an interaction potentialgenerated by an optical beat wave beyond this regime and find a structure ofsharp electron distribution peaks that periodically alternate in theenergy/momentum spectrum. In the classical description we analytically solvethe nonlinear equation of motion, which is an analogy to the mathematicalpendulum. While addressing the problem using quantum mechanics, we first use aparabolic approximation of the interaction potential and then we also study theevolution of the electron wavepacket in an infinite periodical potential. Usingnumerical simulations we show the classical and quantum evolution of theelectron spectra during the interaction for different conditions andexperimental settings.
