This paper analyze critically some passages in the work of the German linguist Wilhelm von Humboldt (1767-1835), which affect the attempt to define the scope of the reflection on the word and raise, in turn, the problem involving reflection language about himself: neither the object nor the relationship between methodological concepts can be defined unambiguously, and this leads to aporetic moments

AbstractTe structure of Cristina Rivera Garza’s novel Nadie me verá llorar is organized with real documents taken from some patients’ clinical stories at the mental hospital, La Castañeda, which was opened in 1910 to celebrate the Mexican Independence centenary. This paper explores the way in which the concepts of memory and archive are put in play to create a relationship between the historical and fictional discourses. The intersection of both discourses and its function in the level of the narrative construction and sense, bring, in the end, a particular idea of history as discipline and the question of its truth as an official discourse by the authority in power

AbstractObjetiveTo analyze the effects of a multidisciplinary program of obesity treatment (PMTO) on risk factors for metabolic syndrome (MS) in children and adolescents at prepubertal, pubertal and adolescents stages according to gender.MethodThe study included 69 obese children and adolescents aged 10 to 18 years. They were allocated to the intervention group (GI) (n=37) and control group (GC) (n=32). There were 23 girls in GI and 14 in GC. The GI was submitted to the multidisciplinary intervention, lasting 16 weeks. It was assessed anthropometric parameters, cardiorespiratory fitness and risk factor for MS.ResultsWe found that the GI achieved a reduction in the prevalence of MS (7.1 % for boys and 8.7 % for girls), and in GC a maintenance for girls and increasing for boys. For dyslipidemia, a reduction in GI for both genders (boys 78.6 % to 71.4 %; girls 82.6 % to 65.2 %), and increasing in GC for both genders. GI Girls had significant improvements for the variables, body mass index, waist circumference, hip circumference and insulin sensibility which was not observed in GI boys who increased lean body mass.ConclusionThe findings show that 16 weeks of multidisciplinary intervention based on cognitive behavioral therapy are sufficient to promote decreasing in the prevalence of MS and dyslipidemia in obese children and adolescents

BackgroundPercutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in saphenous vein grafts remains a challenge for interventional cardiology, due to acute complications and the lack of data on the late efficacy of drug-eluting stents (DESs).MethodsBetween May 2002 and January 2013, patients undergoing PCI with DES at Hospital do Coração were included in the DESIRE Registry. We evaluated the results of patients undergoing PCI in saphenous vein grafts (group 1), who were compared to those undergoing PCI in native vessels (group 2.)ResultsOf a total of 4,655 patients, 311 were included in group 1 and 4,344 in group 2. Group 1 included older patients (68.4±9.7years vs. 64±11.2years; P<0.01), more frequently male (87.1% vs. 76.7%; P<0.01) with a higher incidence of comorbidities. Unstable angina was the most frequent clínical presentation in this group. Group 1 patients received large caliber stents (3.18±1.11mm vs. 2.86±0.43mm; P<0.01) and were less frequently submitted to pre-dilation (36.3% vs. 50.7%; P<0.01) and post-dilation (38.3% vs. 58.4%; P<0.01). They had a higher incidence of non-fatal acute myocardial infarction during hospitalization (11.3% vs. 4.1%; P<0.01) and late major adverse cardiovascular events (32.8% vs. 13.9%; P<0.01), at the expense of cardiac death (7.7% vs. 3.2%; P=0.02) and target-lesion revascularization (9% vs. 4.3%; P<0.01). Definitive stent thrombosis was more frequent in group 1 (3.5% vs. 1%; P<0.01).ConclusionsDespite the unquestionable benefit of DESs in the late outcomes of PCI in complex patients, the treatment of patients with saphenous vein graft lesions remains a challenge, with less favorable acute and late results than in patients with native vessel lesions

Arterial hypertension is a highly prevalent disease and is associated with increased cardiovascular risk. Despite great advances in drug therapy, a considerable number of patients do not have an effective control of the disease, despite the use of multiple drugs, usually in high doses. Renal sympathetic denervation (RSD) has proved to be a promising therapy, with high safety and efficacy in preliminary studies in patients with resistant hypertension. The role of the sympathetic nervous system in the physiopathology of hypertension is well known, and is the rationale for the ablation of sympathetic fibers by transluminal delivery of radiofrequency in the renal arteries. In the last few years, results from case series, non-controlled studies and one multicenter randomized trial with a limited number of patients have shown a significant decrease in short and mid-term blood pressure levels. The objective of this review was to gather evidence on the use of RSD in the control of resistant hypertension and describe technical aspects and perspectives of the procedure

Significant new opportunities for astrophysics and cosmology have beenidentified at low radio frequencies. The Murchison Widefield Array is the firsttelescope in the Southern Hemisphere designed specifically to explore thelow-frequency astronomical sky between 80 and 300 MHz with arcminute angularresolution and high survey efficiency. The telescope will enable new advancesalong four key science themes, including searching for redshifted 21 cmemission from the epoch of reionisation in the early Universe; Galactic andextragalactic all-sky southern hemisphere surveys; time-domain astrophysics;and solar, heliospheric, and ionospheric science and space weather. TheMurchison Widefield Array is located in Western Australia at the site of theplanned Square Kilometre Array (SKA) low-band telescope and is the onlylow-frequency SKA precursor facility. In this paper, we review the performanceproperties of the Murchison Widefield Array and describe its primary scientificobjectives.

We extend the previously developed geometrical correction for the inter- and intramolecular basis set superposition error (gCP) to periodic density functional theory (DFT) calculations. We report gCP results compared to those from the standard Boys-Bernardi counterpoise correction scheme and large basis set calculations. The applicability of the method to molecular crystals as the main target is tested for the benchmark set X23. It consists of 23 noncovalently bound crystals as introduced by Johnson et al. (J. Chem. Phys. 2012, 137, 054103) and refined by Tkatchenko et al. (J. Chem. Phys. 2013, 139, 024705). In order to accurately describe long-range electron correlation effects, we use the standard atom-pairwise dispersion correction scheme DFT-D3. We show that a combination of DFT energies with small atom-centered basis sets, the D3 dispersion correction, and the gCP correction can accurately describe van der Waals and hydrogen-bonded crystals. Mean absolute deviations of the X23 sublimation energies can be reduced by more than 70% and 80% for the standard functionals PBE and B3LYP, respectively, to small residual mean absolute deviations of about 2 kcal/mol (corresponding to 13% of the average sublimation energy). As a further test, we compute the interlayer interaction of graphite for varying distances and obtain a good equilibrium distance and interaction energy of 6.75 Å and -43.0 meV/atom at the PBE-D3-gCP/SVP level. We fit the gCP scheme for a recently developed pob-TZVP solid-state basis set and obtain reasonable results for the X23 benchmark set and the potential energy curve for water adsorption on a nickel (110) surface.
