A library of novel regioselective 1,4-di and 1,4,5-trisubstituted-1,2,3-triazole based benzothiazole-piperazine conjugates were designed and synthesized using the click synthesis approach in the presence and absence of the Cu(I) catalyst. Some of these 1,2,3-triazole hybrids possess in their structures different heterocyclic scaffold including 1,2,4-triazole, benzothiazole, isatin and/or benzimidazole. The newly designed 1,2,3-triazole hybrids were assessed for their antiproliferative inhibition potency against four selected human cancer cell lines (MCF7, T47D, HCT116 and Caco2). The majority of the synthesized compounds demonstrated moderate to potent activity against all the cancer cell lines examined. Further, we have established a structure activity relationship with respect to the in silico analysis of ADME (adsorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion) analysis and found good agreement with in vitro activity.

Purpose: To report a case of bilateral simultaneous angle closure in an adult Nepalese woman without any known secondary cause.
Methods: Observational case report.
Results: A 50-year-old Nepalese woman presented with decreased vision, pain, redness, and watering in both eyes with associated coloured haloes, nausea, and vomiting for 10 days. At presentation, her visual acuity was 20/400 in the right eye and hand motions close to face with accurate projection of rays in the left eye. Intraocular pressure was 38 mmHg in the right eye and 48 mmHg in the left eye without any antiglaucoma medications. A slit-lamp examination revealed bilateral circum-corneal conjunctival congestion, corneal edema, and shallow anterior chambers. Both pupils were mid-dilated and non-reactive to light. Gonioscopy showed closed angles in all four quadrants bilaterally. Posterior segment examination revealed normal optic disc with cup-disc-ratio of 0.3 in the right eye, and blurring of disc margin with cup-disc-ratio of 0.3 in the left eye. The patient was started on systemic acetazolamide 250 mg 4 times a day, topical brimonidine 0.2% and timolol 0.5% 2 times a day, and topical dexamethasone 6 times a day in both eyes, following which IOP reduced to 11 and 12 mmHg, respectively, the corneal edema subsided, but the anterior chamber remained shallow. Laser peripheral iridotomy was performed in the right eye and surgical peripheral iridectomy was performed in the left eye. After two weeks, vision improved to 20/30 in both eyes with normal intraocular pressure off antiglaucoma medications. Anterior chambers deepened significantly with clear corneas bilaterally. Gonioscopy at this stage showed essentially open angles with appositional closure in superior and temporal quadrants in the right eye and open angles in all four quadrants in the left eye. Posterior segment evaluation revealed normal optic disc in both eyes.
Conclusions: Bilateral simultaneous acute angle closure is a rare presentation with very few reported secondary causes. We report a case of bilateral simultaneous angle closure in an adult Nepalese woman without any known secondary cause. The case was successfully managed with laser peripheral iridotomy in the right eye and surgical peripheral iridectomy in the left eye.

Partial hepatectomy is a versatile and reproducible method to study liver regeneration and the effect of cell based therapeutics in various pathological conditions. Partial hepatectomy also facilitates the increased engraftment and proliferation of transplanted cells by accelerating neovascularization and cell migration towards the liver. Here, we describe a simple protocol for performing 30% hepatectomy and transplantation of cells in the spleen of a non-obese diabetic/severe combined immunodeficient NOD.SCID (NOD.CB17-Prkdc scid /J) mouse. In this procedure, two small incisions are made. The first incision is to expose and resect the left lobe of the liver, and another small incision is made to expose the spleen for the intrasplenic transplantation of cells. This procedure does not require any specialized surgical skills, and it can be completed in 5-7 minutes with less stress and pain, faster recovery, and better survival. We have demonstrated the transplantation of hepatocytes isolated from a green fluorescent protein (GFP) expressing mouse (Transgenic C57BL/6-Tg (UBC-GFP) 30Scha/J), as well as hepatocyte like cells of human origin (NeoHep) in partially hepatectomized NOD.SCID mice.

The class imbalance problem presents an important challenge to the data mining community, in which the number of examples of one class is more than the others. This problem is characterized by a different distribution of cases between all the classes. In this paper, our goal is to study the various challenges of class imbalance problem and provide a comparative study of the current development of research in learning from imbalanced data. We provide a thorough understanding of the nature of the problem, the methods used for data balancing, the learning objectives and assessment metrics used for getting measurable performance, the stated research solutions and the imbalanced problem in multiple classes. This paper highlights the significant opportunities and challenges in the field and provides potential future research directions in the class imbalance problem.

We present the analysis of microlensing event MOA-2010-BLG-117, and show thatthe light curve can only be explained by the gravitational lensing of a binarysource star system by a star with a Jupiter mass ratio planet. It was necessaryto modify standard microlensing modeling methods to find the correct lightcurve solution for this binary-source, binary-lens event. We are able tomeasure a strong microlensing parallax signal, which yields the masses of thehost star, $M_* = 0.58\pm 0.11 M_\odot$, and planet $m_p = 0.54\pm 0.10 M_{\rmJup}$ at a projected star-planet separation of $a_\perp = 2.42\pm 0.26\,$AU,corresponding to a semi-major axis of $a = 2.9{+1.6\atop -0.6}\,$AU. Thus, thesystem resembles a half-scale model of the Sun-Jupiter system with ahalf-Jupiter mass planet orbiting a half-solar mass star at very roughly halfof Jupiter's orbital distance from the Sun. The source stars are slightlyevolved, and by requiring them to lie on the same isochrone, we can constrainthe source to lie in the near side of the bulge at a distance of $D_S = 6.9 \pm0.7\,$kpc, which implies a distance to the planetary lens system of $D_L =3.5\pm 0.4\,$kpc. The ability to model unusual planetary microlensing events, like this one, will be necessary to extract precise statistical informationfrom the planned large exoplanet microlensing surveys, such as the WFIRSTmicrolensing survey.

We report results from an exploratory study implementing a new probe ofGalactic evolution using archival Hubble Space Telescope imaging observations.Precise proper motions are combined with photometric relative metallicity andtemperature indices, to produce the proper motion rotation curves of theGalactic bulge separately for metal-poor and metal-rich Main Sequence samples. This provides a "pencil-beam" complement to large-scale wide-field surveys, which to-date have focused on the more traditional bright Giant Branch tracers. We find strong evidence that the Galactic bulge rotation curves drawn from"Metal-rich" and "Metal-poor" samples are indeed discrepant. The "Metal-rich"sample shows greater rotation amplitude and a steeper gradient against line ofsight distance, as possibly a stronger central concentration along the line ofsight. This may represent a new detection of differing orbital anisotropybetween metal-rich and metal-poor bulge objects. We also investigate selectioneffects that would be implied for the longitudinal proper motion cut often usedto isolate a "pure-bulge" sample. Extensive investigation of synthetic stellarpopulations suggest that instrumental and observational artifacts are unlikelyto account for the observed rotation curve differences. Thus, propermotion-based rotation curves can be used to probe chemo-dynamical correlationsfor Main Sequence tracer stars, which are orders of magnitude more numerous inthe Galactic Bulge than the bright Giant Branch tracers. We discuss briefly theprospect of using this new tool to constrain detailed models of Galacticformation and evolution.

The HST/WFC3 multiband photometry spanning from the UV to the near-IR of fourfields in the Galactic bulge, together with that for six template globular andopen clusters, are used to photometrically tag the metallicity [Fe/H] of starsin these fields after proper-motion rejecting most foreground diskcontaminants. Color-magnitude diagrams and luminosity functions are thenconstructed, in particular for the most metal rich and most metal poor stars ineach field. We do not find any significant difference between the $I$-band and$H$-band luminosity functions, hence turnoff luminosity and age, of the metalrich and metal poor components which therefore appear essentially coeval. Inparticular, we find that no more than $\sim 3\%$ of the metal-rich componentcan be $\sim 5$ Gyr old, or younger. Conversely, theoretical luminosityfunctions give a good match to the observed ones for an age of ~10 Gyr.Assuming this age is representative for the bulk of bulge stars, we then recallthe observed properties of star-forming galaxies at 10 Gyr lookback time, i.e.,at z~2, and speculate about bulge formation in that context. We argue that barformation and buckling instabilities leading to the observed boxy/peanut,X-shaped bulge may have arisen late in the history of the Milky Way galaxy, once its gas fraction had decreased compared to the high values typical ofhigh-redshift galaxies. This paper follows the public release of thephotometric and astrometric catalogs for the measured stars in the four fields.

As part of a program to determine dynamical masses of Cepheids, we haveimaged the nearest and brightest Cepheid, Polaris, with the Hubble SpaceTelescope Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 and Wide Field Camera 3. Observationswere obtained at three epochs between 2007 and 2014. In these images, as in HSTframes obtained in 2005 and 2006, which we discussed in a 2008 paper, weresolve the close companion Polaris Ab from the Cepheid Polaris Aa. Because ofthe small separation and large magnitude difference between Polaris Aa and Ab,we used PSF deconvolution techniques to carry out astrometry of the binary.Based on these new measurements, we have updated the elements for the 29.59 yrorbit. Adopting the distance to the system from the recent Gaia Data Release 2,we find a dynamical mass for the Cepheid of 3.45 +/- 0.75 Msun, although thisis preliminary, and will be improved by CHARA measurements covering periastron. As is the case for the recently determined dynamical mass for the Cepheid V1334Cyg, the mass of Polaris is significantly lower than the "evolutionary mass"predicted by fitting to evolutionary tracks in the HR diagram. We discussseveral questions and implications raised by these measurements, including thepulsation mode, which instability-strip crossing the stars are in, and possiblecomplications such as rotation, mass loss, and binary mergers. The distantthird star in the system, Polaris B, appears to be older than the Cepheid, based on isochrone fitting. This may indicate that the Cepheid Polaris isrelatively old and is the result of a binary merger, rather than being a youngsingle star.
