Andreas Homrighausen hat an der FernUniversität in Hagen studiert. Nach dem Diplom in Informatik betrieb der Software Engineering Experte als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter Grundlagenforschung im Bereich des Requirements Engineering und führte Software Engineering Schulungen in großen Unternehmen durch. Seit 2005 war er im Zentrum für Medien und IT der FernUniversität stellvertretender Leiter des Center of Competence für AnwendungsEntwicklung, dessen Leitung er im Juni 2009 übernahm. Im Rahmen des Projekts „Hagen System Relaunch (hs.r)“, mit dem die FernUniversität die anforderungsorientierte, grundlegende Neuausrichtung und Modernisierung des IT-Systems zur Unterstützung von Lehre und Studium plant, entwickelte er einen neuartigen Ansatz zur Anhebung der Datenqualität und zur Ermöglichung von kostengünstigen Datenmigrationen.

There are six sections in this article. In section 1, I summarize views on discourse as a facet of globalization in the academic literature, and then introduce an approach based upon a version of ‘critical discourse analysis’ (CDA) and ‘cultural political economy.’ In section 2, I discuss different strategies of globalization (and regionalization) emanating from governmental and non-governmental agencies, and the different discourses that constitute elements of these strategies. In section 3, I discuss how processes of globalization impact upon specific spatial ‘entities’ (nation-states, cities, regions, etc.) in terms of the idea of ‘re-scaling,’ i.e., changing relations in processes, relationships, practices, and so forth between local, national, and international (including ‘global’) scales. I focus here upon the national scale in its relation to the global scale and the scale of international regions (in particular, the process of ‘European integration’). In section 4, I deal with the media and mediation. In section 5, I discuss people's ordinary experience of globalization, and its implications for and effects upon their lives. Section 6 deals with war and terrorism.

Dieser Artikel ist ein Versuch, Technologie selbst als ein Gebiet soziologischer Forschung zu erarbeiten. Bis jetzt wurde Technologie zumeist als ein nicht-soziales Artefakt gehandhabt und nur ihr Einfluss auf die moderne Gesellschaft war für Sozialforscher von Interesse. Diese herkömmliche Sichtweise basiert auf der Cartesianischen Subjekt/Objekt Dichotomie in der Form Gesellschaft/Technologie. Gegenwärtige technologische Entwicklungen widerlegen jedoch diesen sozialwissenschaftlichen Zugang. Technologie ist am Sprung zur operationalen Schließung, zum re-entry und somit zur Selbstreferentialität. Eine systemtheoretische Herangehensweise an Technologie als funktionierende Simplifizierung und Containment, könnte sich als viabler Ausgangspunkt herausstellen, um eine abstraktere und akkuratere Konzeptualisierung von Technologie zu erreichen. In den letzten Abschnitten wird die Arbeit von Kallinikos über »information growth« vorgestellt, die Technologie als ein systemisches und paradoxes Konzept zu beobachten versucht. Schlussendlich schlägt der Artikel eine neue Herangehensweise an den Technologiebegriff vor, welcher auf folgenden drei Bausteinen beruht: 1) eine operationale und nicht artefaktbasierte Definition der Technologie, 2) die Ausdifferenzierung der Technologie als historische Entwicklung und 3) das re-entry der Technologie in der Form der Technologie zweiter Ordnung.

This article traces the historical development of how images of the fascist or right-wing radical have been constructed in British culture, trying to assess what social functions these constructions have served. It shows that, apart from largely tending to be denied, inter-war fascism was and is constructed as the upper classes dressing up, while the post-war radical right was and is constructed as the underclass dumbing down. Both constructions, it argues, are used to ‘other’ and exclude radical tendencies and the groups they are ascribed to from the middle-class consensus of British culture, and serve to avoid confronting the complex web of motivations behind radical-right behaviour. In so doing, both constructions are used to stabilise dominant versions of British national identity, in particular the myth of Britain’s/England’s essentially moderate and freedomloving character. Drawing on a wide range of cultural examples, the article also seeks to make a theoretical point about the necessity to approach the phenomenon of British fascism from a cultural studies/history angle, which will put the discussions and findings of previous political and historical research into perspective (and locate them all in the moving equilibrium of society)

This article discusses the political dimension of post-war American Poetry from around 1950-1980. The underlying argument is that the antirepresentationalist poetry produced in and around the LANGUAGE-school in the 1970s is the necessary continuation of the political and social activism initially opted for by the Beat Generation. I assert that the kind of language-centeredness typical for many works of the LANGUAGE- school was already entailed in central texts of the 1950s and 1960s, as writers began to examine processes of meaning production/construction in the social sphere. Looking at selected poems by Allen Ginsberg (“A Supermarket in California”, “Wichita Vortex Sutra”), Denise Levertov (the text collection To Stay Alive ) and Bruce Andrews (“I Guess Work the Time Up”), the article traces a specific feature of postmodern poetry, spotlighting the growing ambivalence inherent in the search for an alternative cultural politics instigated by post-war American poets. I point out how the increased interest in the (linguistic) constructedness of political realities resulted in a poetics of “nonnarrativity” and hermetic closure that began gradually to jeopardize the communicative foundation of their collective political goals. My article concludes by suggesting a conceptual link between the projects of multiauthorship engaged in by several LANGUAGE-poets and the Habermasian notion of “communicative rationality.”

Vorsitzender des Vorstands des DGRV, Uwe Fröhlich, Präsident des BVR und Lutz Freitag, Präsident des GdW. Gegenstand des Gesprächs war die zukünftige Entwicklung der Genossenschaften, insbesondere im Hinblick auf die GenG- Novelle des Jahres 2006 sowie die aktuelle Finanzmarktkrise.

Faktoren wie „Gemeinschaftsprinzip, Solidarität, Mitgliedsförderung“ sowie „Synergien durch gemeinsames Handeln“ sind für eGen von wesentlicher Bedeutung. Die effektive Nutzung genossenschaftlicher Vorteile wirkt positiv auf die Ergebnisentwicklung der eG. Die Befragten nehmen aber kaum betriebswirtschaftliche Beratungsleistungen – bis auf die steuerliche und rechtliche Beratung – von ihrem Prüfungsverband in Anspruch. Wurde die Kompetenz des Verbandes im Bereich der Abschlussprüfung überwiegend zufrieden stellend beurteilt, so war die Zufriedenheit in Bezug auf die Fachkompetenz bei der Inanspruchnahme von Beratungsleistungen viel geringer.

Dieser Beitrag untersucht mit Daten des Mikrozensus 2004 den Einfluss sozialer Einbettung auf die ökonomische Selbstständigkeit von Migranten in Deutschland. Für Migranten ist die Selbstständigkeit in vielen Aufnahmeländern ein wichtiger Modus der ökonomischen Integration. In Deutschland war die unternehmerische Aktivität von Migranten bis Ende der 1990er Jahre eher schwach ausgeprägt, seither steigen die Selbstständigenquoten von Migranten jedoch deutlich. In unserer Analyse von Pseudo-Paneldaten des Mikrozensus werden Statusübergänge in die Selbstständigkeit sowie Abstromprozesse aus der Selbstständigkeit untersucht. Ausgehend vom Konzept der „mixed embeddedness“ legen wir besonderes Augenmerk auf Effekte der sozialen Einbettung in Nachbarschaft und Haushalt. Die Analysen zeigen, dass sozialökologische Bedingungen für Gründungen und Überlebenschancen der Unternehmen von Migranten bedeutsam sind. Insbesondere wohlhabende Nachbarschaften mit einer hohen Konzentration von Migranten sind durch eine hohe Gründungsintensität, aber auch durch ein erhöhtes Risiko der Unternehmensaufgabe gekennzeichnet. Darüber hinaus zeigt sich, dass die ökonomische Aktivität in der Nachbarschaft sowohl Gründungen fördert als auch Unternehmensaufgaben entgegen wirkt.

The author presents a historical sketch of the projective relativity theory before and (with new qualitative arguments) after World War II. Then he treats the development of his Projective Unified Field Theory since 1957 up till now with applications to a closed cosmological model, with the result of a vanishing big bang and satisfying numerical cosmological parameters in good agreement with the experiments.
