The Association between Monocyte HDL-C Ratio and SYNTAX Score and SYNTAX Score II in STEMI Patients Treated with Primary PCI.

Metin Çağdaş · Süleyman Karakoyun · Mahmut Yesi̇n +8 more

Monocyte to high-density-lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (MHR) simply reflects proatherogenic and antiatherogenic balance and high level of this ratio is associated with severity of coronary atherosclerosis and cardiac events. We investigated the association between MHR and coronary artery disease severity using SYNTAX score and SYNTAX score II (SSII) in ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients treated with primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI).

Hyperhomocysteinemia Predicts the Severity of Coronary Artery Disease as Determined by the SYNTAX Score in Patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome.

Muhammed Karadeniz · Taner Sarak · Mustafa Duran +5 more

Hyperhomocysteinemia is a known risk factor for acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and is related with the severity of coronary artery disease (CAD). Previous studies have used less quantifiable scoring systems for assessing the severity of CAD. Therefore, we aimed to assess the relationship between homocysteine levels and SYNTAX score (SXscore), which is currently more widely used to grade the severity of CAD.

Fortification of Fractured Instrument Removal Simulated Roots Using Several Calcium Silicate-Based Materials

Tuğrul Aslan · Yakup Üstün · Firdevs ÇINAR +2 more

Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the forces required to fracture roots obturated with different calcium silicate – based materials, after applying a fractured instrument removal simulation. Material and Methods: Seventy-five mandibular premolars were selected and decoronated. Then, all root canals were instrumented using Reciproc system. To mimic the root canal anatomy after the removal of a fractured instrument, each canal was enlarged with a size-3 Peeso reamer. The specimens were distributed into experimental groups according to the materials used for the root fortification: G1: Negative control, G2: ProRoot MTA, G3: Ortho MTA, G4: Biodentine, G5: Endocem MTA. Then, the teeth were embedded into acrylic blocks. A vertical fracture test was applied, and the fracture loads were recorded. Statistical interpretations were made (α=0.05). Results: G2, G3, G4, and G5 showed greater fracture resistances than G1 ( P 0.05). Conclusions: Any of the tested materials could be chosen to reinforce the root after the removal of a fractured instrument.

Extravascular compared to Intravascular Femoral Closure is Associated with Less Bleeding and Similar MACE after Percutaneous Coronary Intervention

Seung Hyun Kim · Michael Behnes · Sebastian Baron +6 more

Background: Various types of vascular closure devices (VCDs) are frequently utilized in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in order to prevent arterial access site bleeding, which represents one of the most relevant complications associated with adverse clinical outcomes. This study aims to compare directly two mechanistically different types of femoral closure (FC) devices in patients undergoing PCI. Methods: This single-center, prospective, observational study includes consecutively patients either treated by the extravascular StarClose SE® (Abbott, Illinois, U.S.A.) or the intravascular AngioSeal™ FC (St. Jude Medical, Inc., St. Paul, MN, U.S.A.) after PCI. The primary endpoint was bleeding complications, the secondary endpoint was major adverse cardiac events (MACE) at 30 days of follow-up. Results: 200 patients in each group (StarClose SE® and AngioSeal™) were enrolled following PCI. The rates of overall and non-access site bleedings were significantly higher in the AngioSeal™ group (56%; 6%) compared to the StarClose SE® group (43.5%; 0.5%) ( p = 0.012; 0.003). Additionally, complicated access site bleedings were also significantly higher in the AngioSeal™ group ( p = 0.011). No significant differences of MACE were observed in both groups. However, there was a higher rate of unsuccessful implantation of the StarClose SE® (n=12, excluded from the study). Conclusions: In case of successful implantation , FC by the AngioSeal™ is associated with the higher rate of both access and non-access site bleedings, but similar rates of MACE at 30 days compared to the StarClose SE® device.

Hypercyclicity of weighted translations on Orlicz spaces

M. R. Azimi · İbrahim Akbarbaglu

In this paper, we study the hypercyclicity of the weighted translation Cu,g defined on Orlicz space LΦ(G) where G is a locally compact group, g ∈ G and u is a weight function on G . It is shown that when g ∈G is a torsion element, then Cu,g cannot be hypercyclic. However, for an aperiodic element g ∈ G , necessary and sufficient conditions for Cu,g and its adjoint are given to be hypercyclic. Mathematics subject classification (2010): 47A16, 46E30.

Meranın besin değerine dayalı gübrelemenin ekonomik analizi: Yeni bir görüş

İbrahim Aydın · Duygu Algan · Nuh Ocak

Concepts behind the best management practices of rangeland improvement include production, economics, as well as social and environmental aspects. Although revenue in rangelands can be increased by fertilization, total production cost can increase and as a result, net benefit may reduce due to increase in fertilizer application cost. This study examined differences between three economic analysis models (EAM): total revenue based on i) hay yield (HY), ii) conversion rate of consumable crude protein to meat on the hoof in cow-calf (CPM) and iii) yield and relative feed value (RFV) index as a new opinion to highlight the economic aspects related to the N (0, 60 and 120 kg ha), P (0, 60 and 120 kg ha) and K (0 and 80 kg ha) fertilization (NPK) in degraded rangelands. For this purpose, a series of data, gathered from an experiment conducted to increase the productivity of degraded rangelands by fertilization were analyzed. The results were most dissimilar for ‘the revenue’ variable and this difference lies in the fact that the EAMs estimated income in different ways. Due to the different revenue measurements, net benefit of CPM was the highest, while that of HY was the lowest. The HAY and RFV models indicate that NPK fertilizers did not increase forage production enough to be profitable for animal production. This study does not strive to suggest one EAM over another; however, it examines the respective models concerning various data and describes underlying characteristics of EAMs to obtain a given increase in net benefit. Zaizul Ab Rahman · Fauziah Ibrahim · Nasrudin Subhi

Translating Collocation Between Arabic And English: An Analytical Study Of The Translation Of Arabic Novel “Men In The Sun”

Omnia Ahmed Abdelwanis Ibrahim · Majdi Haji Ibrahim

This study aims at addressing methods of translating collocations by analyzing a set of collocations selected from the Arabic novel “Men in the Sun” by Ghassan Kanfani and comparing them with their English translation by Hilary Kilpatrick, in order to identify how successful the English translation is in transmitting the Arabic collocations and their meanings and to identify the various methods in translating them. To achieve the objective of the study, ten (10) collocations have been selected, five (5) nominal and five (5) verbal to be analyzed and studied based on the grammatical structure model constructed and introduced by Hassan Ghazalah. The study indicates that the translator’s methods were diversified between those that preserve the meaning as well as the original Arabic grammatical structure, the methods that preserve the meaning without the original grammatical structure, the methods that partially transmit the meaning of the original collocation and other methods that ignore the meaning completely.

Critical Financial Analysis of Islamic Bank in the Philippines: Case Study of Amanah Islamic Bank

Hasmiene Diocolano Ibrahim · Normah Omar · Hamdino Hamdan

The inspiration to delve into the contemporary status of Islamic banking and finance in the Philippines has led this study to analyze the financial condition of Amanah Islamic Bank (AIB) and recommend improvements in its financial performance. This secondary databased study utilizes library research and content analysis, particularly using the capital, asset, management, earnings, and liquidity parameters. AIB is the rebranded version of Al-Amanah Islamic Investment Bank of the Philippines. At present, AIB has nine branches and is the only authorized bank in the Philippines to offer Islamic banking products and services. Presidential Decree No. 542, which was signed in 1974, directed the AIB to implement an Islamic model of banking and financing, particularly following the "no interest principle" and partnership mechanisms. However, this order was not completely implemented because "conventional banking" dominated the AIB's operation. This study contributes to the continuing effort to convert AIB into a full-fledged Islamic bank and simultaneously contend with the emerging growth of the banking industry. © 2018, Kolej University Islam Sultan Azlan Shah.

Mandatory HIV testing as a prerequisite for surgical procedures: Perspectives on rights and ethics

Joseph Benzakoun · Anwer Jamil · B M Aya +4 more

HIV is a complex and multifaceted entity, especially in terms of the biopsychosocial model of disease. For decades, its biological characteristics have consistently outstripped our human ability to understand its molecular and pathogenic complexities. The psychosocial, legal and ethical implications are equally devastating, requiring concerted global debates and commitments on the subject of human rights. While the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) was adopted as an instrument that guarantees and safeguards the inherent dignity and equality of every being, and as a framework for bettering the relationship between a government and its citizenry, the translation of the declaration into practical law, and its subsequent implementation, has suffered continual debates, hitches and neglect worldwide.[1] To what extent has Nigeria implemented policies protecting any of the ‘rights’ it purports to defend? It is evident that in Nigeria, HIV-positive people are denied employment and even access to healthcare on the basis of stigmatisation.[2] Mandatory HIV testing as a prerequisite for surgery, and even worse, the refusal of treatment to patients infected with the virus, is ethically unacceptable worldwide.[3] In India, such practice was criticised and said to have no public health justification, as it has the potential to drive vulnerable and possibly HIV-positive people out of HIV/AIDS intervention programmes.[4] Thomas[3] showed that even when the government had issued guidelines in compliance with the UDHR charter, they were rarely enforced, resulting in the widespread practice of mandatory HIV testing, with practitioners maintaining that the risk of transmission is not zero, despite universal precautions. While surgeons could argue the case on the basis of their risk of infection, mandatory testing leads to stigmatisation and discrimination. Conversely, in the developed world, many clients treat infected health practitioners with distrust, a situation that led the American College of Surgeons (ACS) to release a guideline to resolve the stalemate.[5] This study assessed the practice of mandatory HIV testing, HIV testing without consent and disclosure of test results in Nigeria.
