Mathematical Model for the Dynamics of Neisseria Gonorrhea Disease with Natural Immunity and Treatment Effects

Ibrahim Isa Adamu · Sulaiman Usman

Neisseria gonorrhea infection; a sexually transmitted disease, is caused primarily by a type of germ; a bacteria called neisseria gonorrhea. The infection is a major public health challenge today due to the high incidence of infections accompanied by a dwindling number of treatment options especially in developing and underdeveloped countries. In this paper, we developed a mathematical model for the transmission dynamics of neisseria gonorrhea infection and studied the effect of natural immunity and treatment as the only available control interventions on the spread of the disease in a population. We computed the model disease-free equilibrium and analyzed its local and global stability in a well-defined positively invariant and attracting set Ω using the next-generation matrix plus linearization method and the comparison theorem respectively. The disease-free equilibrium was proved to be both locally and globally asymptotically stable if $R_0 1$. We conducted sensitivity analysis of parameters in the basic reproduction number $R_0$ using the normalized forward sensitivity index method. Results of the analysis revealed that $R_0$ decreases with increase in treatment and natural immunity rates. The results of the numerical simulations carried out using MATLAB R2012B showed that there is increase in new infections due to increased contact with infected individuals in the susceptible population and that, with increased treatment rate and controlled death due to the disease in the population, neisseria gonorrhea infection would be wiped out within 300 days of the treatment intervention.

The Impact of Business Incubator Facilities on Investment Promotion in Jordan: A Case of King Hussein Business Park

Ibrahim Alshamaileh · Fouad Sheikh Salem

This study aims to measure the impact of facilities provided by King Hussein Business Park on investment promotion. King Hussein Business Park has reached 100% occupancy rate, with a crucial plan for expansion to over 1.4 million m2 of land. The problem of the study lies on how King Hussein Business Park will attract additional investments to occupy the spaces targeted for expansion. Results of the study reveal a significant positive impact of the facilities on investment promotion. The robust infrastructure, complementary services, and investment law benefits influence the creation of attractive business environment for investments. These findings show that countries with scarce resources face many challenges in promoting investment either locally or internationally, and they must improve their business climate for investment promotion. Governments also have the means to make conducting the businesses and projects easier for people.

The Capital Assets Pricing Model & Arbitrage Pricing Theory: Properties and Applications in Jordan

Ibrahim Alshomaly · Ra’ed Masa’deh

This paper aimed to test the validity of capital asset pricing model (CAPM) and arbitrage pricing theory (APT) in Jordanian stock Market using three different firms of three main sectors, financial, industrial, and service sector for the period Q1 (2000) to Q4 (2016), using published information obtained from Amman stock exchange (ASE), these models were designed to measure the cost of capital using the coefficient of systematic risk factor, that used in the valuation of capital assets. We reviewed the most important similarities and differences between the two models out of sectors analysis. The study showed, first, there are some differences between the two models in term of the amount of systematic risk that can be eliminated by diversification in the three sectors. Second, the application of APT model showed that large percentage of risk can be eliminated by diversification more than CAPM model. Third, the banking sector in Jordan faces more systematic risks than other sectors.

Explaining Individuals’ Usage of Social Commerce: A Data Mining Approach

Yazn Alshamaila · Ibrahim Aljarah · Ala’ M. Al-Zoubi

With the use of Web 2.0 technology, e-commerce is undergoing a radical change that enriches consumer involvement and enables a better understanding of economic value. This emerging phenomenon is known as social commerce. Social commerce (s-commerce) presents a new alternative for consumers to search for and find information about products they are seeking to buy. In spite of its universality, the adoption of this burgeoning technology is affected by several factors. This research project is an initial attempt to explore individuals’ intention of s-commerce usage through the data mining approach. The data was collected via a web-based questionnaire survey of 360 social network site (SNS) users in Jordan. Data mining techniques were then used to analyze the collected data in order to figure out what group of features is best for predicting s-commerce adoption among SNS users. The results showed that data characteristics related to gender, monthly income, civil status, number of connections, and prior online shopping experience are key factors in the classification process. The findings may assist researchers in investigating social commerce issues and aid practitioners in developing new s-commerce strategies.

The Effect of Applying Accreditation Standards on Patients’ Satisfaction in Jordanian Governmental Hospitals

Naser Ibrahim Saif

Most hospitals follow voluntary or mandatory accreditation standards, which are widely believed to improve patient satisfaction. The current descriptive, qualitative study explored physicians’ and nurses’ opinions and beliefs regarding implemented accreditation standards on patient satisfaction at accredited Jordanian public hospitals in 2017. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire with 110 physicians and nurses from three hospitals (response rate = 71%). SPSS version 17 was used to calculate mean values, standard deviations, regression, and to conduct t-tests (significant p-values < .05). Results indicated medium levels of patient satisfaction in accredited hospitals, suggesting that patient satisfaction levels require improvement. Future research should identify causal relationships between implementing accreditation standards and patient satisfaction.

The Democratic Values of the Student Movement in Kosovo 1997/1999 and Their Echoes in Western Diplomacy

Lulzim Nika

After the fall of east orientated political system and coming of the pluralistic system in the Yugoslav federation, the nationalisms that claimed to dominate Yugoslavia, such as Serbian, Croatian and Slovenian nationalism came to the surface, which also led to the overthrow of Yugoslavia. Following the abolition of Kosovo's limited autonomy of 1974, in March 1989, the Milosevic Serb regime during the 1990s imposed violent measures in all Kosovo institutions by removing Albanian workers from their jobs. Thus, Kosovo, Albanians were expelled collectively from the education process in the Albanian language, and left school and university facilities. Efforts to reach an agreement between Albanians and Serbian representatives for education during 1992 were unsuccessful. In these difficult contexts, the parallel education system of Kosovo Albanians was organized. In these difficult circumstances, students and Albanian students continued learning outside school facilities. After ignoring the Kosovo problem in the peace agreement reached in Dayton for Bosnia, the dissatisfaction with the peace policy led by Dr. Ibrahim Rugova grew all over Kosovo. In these circumstances, professors and students with vision began to talk about the organization of peaceful protests against the Serbian regime. After a long process, a new student movement took place at the University of Prishtina, which marks the beginning of the great protest on 1 October 1997. In this paper, we analyse the attitudes of international diplomacy with a special emphasis on the West in relation to this movement following the 1 October 1997 peace protests in Kosovo.

The Effect of Religious Commitment on Psychological Security: The Case of Female Students at Irbid University College

Naser Ibrahim Alsharah · Abd-Alnaser Ahmad Alazam · Nayef Fadous Alhamad +1 more

Both a 75-items and a 30-items scales were used to uncover the relationship between religious commitment and psychological security among a sample of (156) female students in Irbid University College. Answers revealed that female students are religiously committed as they are psychologically secure. The study has found out that academic average, and income influence the degree of religious commitment of sample, but not their psychological security. Meanwhile, the study proved that parents’ religiosity and relationship influence their daughters’ religious commitment and psychological security. In this retrospect, the study suggests to conduct further research that tackle the behavioural (treatment) aspect of religion on students, and father-child relationship, and psychological security.

Predicting Farmers’ Willingness to Adopt Liquid Pollination and Polycarbonate Drying House Technologies: A Case Study from the Date Palm Growers in the Sultanate of Oman

Boubaker Dhehibi · Mohamed Ben Salah · Aymen Frija +6 more

The aim of this research paper is to assess the adoption level of the two technologies (liquid pollination and polycarbonate drying houses) in the Sultanate of Oman with emphasis on identifying influencing factors of the adoption process and exploring resulting policy implications. The methodological framework used is based on the implementation of the ADOPT (Adoption and Diffusion Outcome Prediction Tool) tool in two localities of the Sultanate of Oman through focus groups discussion (FGD’s). Empirical findings obtained from the assessment of the Liquid Pollination (LP) technology indicate that peak adoption rate for liquid pollination technology in “North Al Batinah” is high and predicted to be around 95% (of the total population) after a period of 14.5 years. The predicted adoption level after 5 and 10 years from introducing the technology in the region is estimated to be 46.9% and 91.5%, respectively. The assessment of the rate of adoption of the Polycarbonate Drying Houses (PDH) technology and the identification of factors affecting the peak and adoption levels, and constraints that limit the adoption process and widespread of such technology among the date palm growers of Oman indicates that peak adoption rate for PDH technology in the target study region is predicted to be 95% after a period of 21 years. The predicted adoption level after 5 and 10 years is expected to be 23.5% and 72.9%, respectively. The presented results suggest that sustainable increase in date palm productivity can be achieved if farmers are encouraged to adopt the LP and PDH technologies. However, the adoption of such technology needs to be accompanied by a supporting extension system and an enabling policy environment to ensure the scaling-up and widespread use of these promising and profitable technologies.
