This paper estimates the equilibrium and causality relationships among gross domestic product, energy consumption, financial development, foreign direct investment inflows, and gross fixed capital formation. Different econometrics tests like descriptive statistics, ARCH, KPSS unit root, Johansen and Juselius’s co-integration, VECM Granger causality, and ARDL equilibrium relationships have been employed in Malaysia over the (1971−2013) period. The correlation matrix results indicate a linear association among variables. The null hypotheses of Heteroscedasticity and non-stationary have been rejected implying the appropriate use of VECM and ARDL approach. The VECM Granger causality findings show a long-run bidirectional among the variables. The ARDL approach results demonstrate that energy consumption, financial development, foreign direct investment inflows, and gross fixed capital formation augment gross domestic product in long-run. However, the findings of this paper add essential implications to policy makers and scholars in fields of economic, energy, and finance.

This research is conducted to investigate the perceptions of teachers and students as regards to ten motivational strategies (MSs) proposed by Dornyei & Csizer (1998) for motivating learners. It is an empirical research using quantitative methods to collect data. A structured survey on a large scale of a random sample of female teachers and students was conducted in a university Saudi context. The data collected from the questionnaires is analyzed by SPSS for descriptive statistics. For each strategy, the mean, standard deviation, and mean percentage were calculated to show teachers and students’ perceptions of MSs and to help in raking them. The data for the open-ended questions were revised manually for common themes. The results of the study support the findings of earlier research with a special emphasis on the culturally specific MSs that are specific for of Saudi university students and their teachers. Based on the results, two lists of MSs for teachers and students are produced and inferences are highlighted. The present study also stresses the importance of catering for students’ perceptions in implementing any teaching strategies as both teachers and students’ perceptions differ.

In the field of academic writing, it is important to create a structurally and communicatively well-organized and coherent text. Metadiscourse is the way in which writers interact through their use of language in the form of writing with readers– is a widely used term in the field of pragmatics and language teaching. This research article aims to investigate using code glosses as a sub-category of metadiscourse in the introduction section of two different disciplines, politics and applied linguistics. The corpus consists of twenty research articles from the politics and twenty from applied linguistics. The model suggested by Hyland (2005) is used for analizing the selected corpus. These articles were investigated and the number of code-glosses in each group was counted and analyzed. The result of data analysis revealed that there is significant difference between the frequency count of using code glosses used by applied linguistics and politics authors. Politics authors used more code glosses in comparison with applied linguistics and both applied linguistics and politics writers used reformulations more than exemplifications. This study can have pedagogical implications for EAP course designers as well as academic writing instructors and students.
