Evaluating the Turkish urban planning system through the lens of regenerative design and planning principles
This article investigates the compatibility of Türkiye’s urban planning system with regenerative design and planning principles. Initially, it explores the potential to integrate regenerative principles by synthesising criteria derived from sustainability-focused ecological approaches using the Affinity Diagram Methodology. Next, it highlights critical challenges within Türkiye’s current planning framework, evaluating its capacity to address environmental, social, and cultural challenges. Subsequently, the study assesses Turkish planning systems and legislation against regenerative principles through Manual Content Analysis. The findings offer a critical lens for evaluating and rethinking planning legislation and governance structures through regenerative principles, offering strategic insights for transformation in both Türkiye and similar contexts worldwide.
